Jail House Rock:
You are all invited to one of the hottest concerts staged and all you have to do to get in is ... commit a crime! Welcome to the Moose Jaw Correctional Centre! You are hereby sentenced to an evening of laughter, good food, great music and you shall all be released right after you pay your tab!
Back in 1967, John Storm was one of the finest guitar craftsmen around; they called him the "Guitar Doctor". When it came to fixing musical instruments he was amazing... When it came to paying taxes...he was terrible! So, when word got out that the "Doc" was in jail for delinquent taxes, the Man in Black himself, Mr. Johnny Cash called his friend Mr. Elvis Presley and the two decided what better way to pay off this debt then by throwing a benefit concert right in the Moose Jaw Jail!
Join us for Jail House Rock! Featuring the music of Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and a few surprise guests, it's the best time you will ever have being thrown in jail!
Director's Notes:
Hello, and welcome to the Moose Jaw Jail! Tonight we are very proud to be hosting an incredible concert featuring some of the best performers 1967 has to offer. You have all been invited here tonight because you have family members who are inmates here or at the Women’s Penitentiary in Regina. The concert is being recorded and will be made into a special live record, of which all proceeds will go toward paying off fines and back taxes of one of our inmates, John Storm. John, also known as the “Guitar Doctor”, is a craftsman who has worked on many musicians’ instruments, and many wanted to pitch in to help by performing here tonight. Such stars as: Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Grace Slick, Johnny Rivers, Nancy Sinatra, Dusty Springfield, Eric Burdon, Jerry Lee Lewis, June Carter, Roy Orbison and Bobbi Gentry. This is a line up that will make people forget they are in jail. We have all enjoyed putting this show together. We have a wonderful cast working hard to present our tribute to some of the wonderful musical talents from 1967. With a show like this, some departments really do have to go the extra mile. Hats off to our costumer, Lucille Laporte, for creating all the different costumes for our many musical “stars”, and to our musical director, Greg Dunstan, for coaching these great songs. As always, I thank my incredible crew and department heads. We all hope you enjoy your evening with us and thank you for coming! If you have any comments or questions about any of our shows, please feel free to email me. Cheers!
